In August 2025, Brazil's nominal budget deficit expanded to R$91.5 billion, surpassing the R$90.4 billion deficit recorded in the same month the previous year. The consolidated public sector reported a primary deficit of R$17.3 billion, an improvement from the R$21.4 billion deficit seen in August 2024. The Central Government, regional governments, and state-owned enterprises reported deficits of R$15.9 billion, R$1.3 billion, and R$6 million, respectively. Over a 12-month period, the consolidated primary deficit decreased to R$23.1 billion, equating to 0.19% of GDP, down from R$27.3 billion, or 0.22% of GDP, in July. In contrast, the nominal deficit was R$969.6 billion, representing 7.81% of GDP, which is relatively unchanged from July's R$968.5 billion, or 7.85% of GDP.
